We tried to get some relaxation time in today. Spent a bit of time at the ocean in the morning, then visited a local wildlife refuge that is supposed to be a haven for scarlet macaws. Although it was slightly cooler in the jungle than it was, say, in the parking lot, it was still incredibly humid. Fred and Nancy and Rob made it through the first loop, then hung out and waited while everyone else continued on the second loop.
The 'resters' so no wildlife to speak of, other than trails of ants carrying bits of leaves and bark back to their underground homes, and a big iguana.
Sam was worried because the guidebook warned about armed bandits; the 'hikers' saw two fewer bandits than they saw macaws, or none. All in all, a bust, fauna-wise. Bandit-wise, a great success.
We stopped by the grocery store on the way home and picked up a roasted chicken and fixings for hot dogs and hamburgers. After dinner, we played Uno and dice games until, tired, we decided to do our New Year's countdown at ten o'clock. Rob and Sheridan stayed up until midnight, and Melissa woke up in time to watch the beachfront fireworks from our balcony. Happy New Year!
